Sports for Tuesday, June 24th

 

MLB: Twins were off last night

-       Twins kick off a West Coast swing with 3 games against the Angels

-       Kyle Gibson (6-5 3.25 ERA) vs. CJ Wilson (7-6 3.34 ERA), first pitch @ 9:05pm

 

-       Troy Tulowitzki (COL) and Jose Bautista (TOR) were named the Home Run Derby team captains. It has been rumored that Tulowitzki will chose current teammate and former Minnesota Twin, Justin Morneau to be on the NL team.

 

-       Home Run Debry is July 24th

 

The Celebrity Game participants were announced yesterday as well:

-       The list of “legends” is an impressive one: Rickey Henderson, Andre Dawson, Rollie Fingers, Mike Piazza, Jack Morris, Fred Lynn, Ozzie Smith, John Smoltz, and Jim Thome.

-       Local star athletes from other Minnesota teams: Adrian Peterson, Kevin Love, Maya Moore, and Zach Parise.

-       List of “celebrities” signed up for the game: Andy Cohen, James Denton, Chris Distefano, Jennie Finch, Melanie Iglesias, Fat Joe, Charlie McDermott, Nelly, Dylan O’Brien, Rob Riggle, Sway, and Andrew Zimmern.

 

Northwoods League: Rox split double header and return home after road trip

Game 1: Rox 4, Waterloo Bucks 3

Game 2: Waterloo Bucks 5, Rox 2

-       Rox return home tonight to host the Alexandria Blue Anchors, first pitch at 7:05pm

 

NHL

-       Wild will open next season with a home-and-home match-up against the Colorado Avalanche on October 9th. Wild topped Colorado in a 7 game series in the playoffs this season.

-       Dominik Hasek (Ha-shik), Mike Modono, Rob Blake and Peter Forsberg were elected into the NHL Hall of Fame. 

-       According to reports, the Wild will be getting an outdoor game in the 2015-2016 season

 

Soccer: Huge TV ratings again in US

-       USA vs. Portugal was the most watched Soccer game in the history of the United States. 

-       The English broadcast, combined with the Spanish broadcast, had nearly 25 million viewers. 

-       That is more people than all the World Series games and all the NBA Finals games. Only Football games have gotten more viewers on ESPN.
