Sports for Monday, June 16th

 

MLB: Tigers 4, Twins 3

-       Arcia's shaky defense costs the Twins late

-       Joe Mauer was moved to the 2 hole and went 2-4

-       Brian Dozier returned to the lineup after missing 3 starts (back)

-       Former Twin Joe Nathan pitched a perfect 9th for his 3rd win of the year

-       Tonight: Twins @ Red Sox, 6:10pm, Correia (3-7) vs. De La Rosa (1-2)

 

-       Trevor Plouffe was placed on the disabled list with a rib injury. Pedro Florimon was called up to fill his spot.

 

-       Former Minnesota Twin Vance Worley returned to the Majors yesterday with 7 shutout innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

 

High School: Class 2A Baseball State Championship: Cathedral vs. Fairmont

-       The game was postponed on Saturday due to the rain, game is still at Target Field today

-       Coverage is on 660am, pregame starting at 2:30pm

 

NBA: Spurs 104, Heat 87

-       Spurs win the NBA title 4-1, Tim Duncan's 5th Championship

-       Kawhi (Ka-why) Leonard was named Finals MVP

-       Each Spurs win was by 15 points or more

-       Heat led by 16 at one point in time, Spurs outscored them 96-65 after

 

Golf: Martin Kymer (Ki-mer) led wire-to-wire to win the US Open with a score of 9-under

-       No other golfer shot better than a 1-under

-       Kymer's 271 was the second lowest score in US Open history

 

Soccer: World Cup Group Play, United States vs. Ghana, 4:30pm

-       Experts believe that the US need to win this game to have a chance to advance out of group play

 

-       The French National Coach Didier Deschamps (De-de De-shaun) claims that his team is being spied on by drones. 

 

NASCAR: Jimmie Johnson won at Michigan International Speedway

-       It was Johnson's first win at the race track

-       Next week it is a road track race in Sonoma

 

 

 

 

NFL

-       The funeral for Super Bowl winning Head Coach Chuck Noll is Tuesday Morning. Noll won 4 Super Bowls with the Steelers and was a player for the Cleveland Browns.

 

Northwoods League: Rox drop Sunday double-header

-       Game 1: Kingfish 4, Rox 1

-       Game 2: Kingfish 10, Rox 7

-       It was a double-header after Saturday's game was interrupted with rain

-       Rox look to rebound on the road tonight at Alexandria, first pitch at 6:35pm
