OMAHA, Neb. (KNSI) - Joey Benik is back in a big way.
The Sophmore forward returned to the line-up Friday night after suffering an upper body injury against the Denver Pioneers in early January. With Benik back on the attack, the Huskies offense seemed to find a grove. It got started as Jonny Brodzinski and Cory Thorson had assists on Kalle Kossilla's 9th goal of the season, which would be the only tally in the first twenty minutes.
In the second period, Benik found the back of the net twice, both even strength goals as the Huskies took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. But the good feelings didn't last for the Huskies as the Mavericks tied the game less than 30 seconds into the 3rd as Zahn Raubenheimer put away an even strength score.
It stayed 3-3 until late into the 3rd when Kevin Gravel scored his 3rd goal of the season to give the Huskies the last lead of the night. Brooks Bertsch added an empty net goal as time expired.
The Huskies will be back on the ice tomorrow, Williams Integracare pregame starts at 6:40 on AM 1450 FM 103.3 KNSI, your home of the Huskies.
