MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KNSI) Sophomore guard Rachel Banham poured in 37 points to surpass the 1,000 career point mark, but it wasn't enough as Illinois defeated Minnesota 91-86 in Big Ten women's basketball Monday night.
Banham became the 21st Gopher, and third sophomore, in program history to score 1,000 career points when she nailed a three-pointer from the corner just 2:53 into the second half.
Micaella Riche had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, and Shayne Mullaney chipped in 11 points.
With the loss, Minnesota drops to 13-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
The Gophers host 23rd ranked Michigan Thursday night at Williams Arena.
