(KNSI) - St. Cloud Tech's head football coach is leaving the Tigers for an opportunity elsewhere.
Gregg Martig is resigning from Tech High School to take a teaching and assistant football coach position with Pequot Lakes.
Activities Director Andrea Swanberg says Martig will be missed.
"He is a very respected coach, the kids really like him and I know he likes them," said Swanberg, who has known Martig since high school.
She says Martig's family has a cabin in the Pequot Lakes area and he loves the outdoors.
Swanberg says, while Martig will be missed, Tech has a veteran coaching staff that she's confident will carry on the Tech tradition.
She says the head coaching position will be posted this week.
Martig has been with the Tech football program since 1995 and has been head coach since 2006.
Over 12 seasons as head coach, his Tigers teams have posted a 71-49 record.
Last fall, his talented team with players like Brevyn Spann-Ford and James Kaczor posted a 8-3 record and made it to the playoffs, losing an exciting game to Elk River in the snow 14-13.
