The St. Cloud Technical Community College Cyclones play in the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Minnesota Community College League includes 17 different schools. All the Minnesota Schools are in Region 13; which includes teams from North Dakota and Wisconsin. 2017 NJCAA REGION XIII TOURNAMENT

SCTCC CYCLONES 16 MESABI RCTC NORSE 5

The Cyclones collected 13 hits and they played a solid defensive game to give their pitchers great support. Joey Cutrone, a sophomore from Cooper City H. S of Fort Lauderdale, Florida started on the mound, he threw 4 2/3 innings to earn the win. He gave up 6 hits, 5 runs, 5 walks and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Ismael Martinez a sophomore from Coral Glades H. S. Of Miami, Florida threw 2 1/3 innings to close it out, he issued on walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts.

There were five Cyclones that had multi hit games; led by Carlos Reyes a freshman from Hialeah H. S. of Hialeah, Florida. He went 2-5 with a huge grand slam in the first inning to give the Cyclones a huge boost from the start. He did finish the game with a big 5 RBI's and he scored a pair of runs. Isaiah Almanza a sophomore from Deming H. S. of Deming, New Mexico had a big game. He went 2-3 with a triple and a sacrifice fly for 4 big RBI's, he walked and he scored 3 runs. Matt Quade a freshman from Paynesville H. S. went 2-5 with a booming double for 2 RBI's and he scored a run. Fabio Espinosa Gutierrez a sophomore from Bolivar, Colombia went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and he scored a pair of runs. Zach Fuecker a freshman from Sauk Rapids H. S of Sauk Rapids, MN went 2-4 with a RBI and he earned a walk and Justin Barreneche a sophomore from Barbara Goleman H. S. of Hialeah, Florida went 1-4 with a triple for a RBI and he earned a walk. Jonathon Fernandez of sophomore from SLAM Charter School of Doral, Florida had a sacrifice fly for a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Adam Gilsrud a sophomore from Andover H. S of Andover, MN earned 4 walks, one RBI and he scored a pair of runs. Justin Mohs a freshman from St. Cloud Tech H. S of St. Cloud, Mn went 1-3 with a walk and he scored a run.


The pitcher of record for the Norse was Uriel Rosario. Eddie Ortiz had a double for a RBI and Sam Roberts a base hit for a RBI. Dylan LInville had a base hit for a RBI and Heriberto Rosa had a hit for a RBI. Tanner Rickey and John Moringland both had base hits for the Norse.


RIVERLAND CC BLUE DEVILS 9 STCC CYCLONES 2 (5/19 @ Putz)

This was a case of the Cyclones playing a poor game and the Blue Devils played a good game. The Blue Devils pounded the Cyclones pitching for 17 hits and they played nearly errorless baseball. The Blue Devils got a very good pitching performance by lefty Jake Erickson, a freshman from LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He threw a complete game, he gave up 6 hits, and he recorded 10 big strikeouts. Jake threw 108 pitches in his complete game effort. Leading the Blues Devils on offense was Luis Rodriguez, he went 2-4 with a home run for total of 3 RBI's and he earned a walk. Josh Molina went 2-4 with a RBI and he earned a walk and Alex Ciola went 3-5 with a double for 3 RBI's. Jason McClenahan went 2-3 with a RBI, he walked and he scored a pair of runs. Jacob Zwak went 2-5 with a double for a RBI and Marion Brunken went 2-4 with a sacrifice bunt, a walk and he scored a pair of runs.

The Cyclones starting pitcher Ricardo Garcia a sophomore from Goleman High School of Miramar, Florida threw 4 2/3 innings. He gave up 11 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and he recorded a pair of strikeouts. Lukas Lanners a freshman from North High School of Eau Claire, Wisconsin threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 2 hits and he walked two. Mike Leffler a sophomore from Dassel Cokato High School of Cokato, MN threw 1 inning in relief. He gave up 3 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and he recorded one strikeout. Quinn Gibson a freshman from Alexandria High School of Alexandria, MN. He threw 1 1/3 inning in relief, he gave up just one hit in his outing.

The Cyclones collected 6 hits, led by Justin Barreneche, he went 2-4 with a double for a RBI. Matt Quade went 1-3 with a triple for a RBI and he was hit by a pitch and Justin Mohs went 1-4 and he scored a run. Fabio Espinosa Gutierrez went 1-4, Zach Fuecker went 1-4 and Isaiah Almanza scored a run.




STCC CYCLONES 12 MN WEST CTC BLUE JAYS 0 (5 Innings) (5/19 @ Putz)

The Cyclones rebounded from their loss to defeat the Blue Jays 12-0 in a 5 inning game ended by the 10 run rule. Jonathan Sodergren a sophomore from Bloomington Kennedy High School of Bloomington, MN started on the mound. He had a great performance, he threw 4 innings, gave up just 3 hits, and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Jake Brinker a freshman from Rocori High School of Cold Spring, MN threw the final inning in relief, he recorded a strikeout.

The Cyclones had players with multi hit games, led by Justin Barreneche, he went 2-4 with a double for 2 RBI's and he scored a pair of runs. Matt Quade had a good game, he went 2-4 with 3 RBI's and he scored a pair of runs. Jonathon Fernandez went 2-3 with a RBI, he walked and he scored a pair of runs. Zach Fuecker went 1-2 with a pair of walks and Isaiah Almanza went 1-4 and he scored a run. Fabio Espinosa Gutierrez had a sacrifice bunt, 2 pair of walks for a RBI and he scored a run. Justin Mohs earned a pair of walks and he scored a run, Adam Gilsrud earned a pair of walks and he scored a run and Carlos Reyes scored a run.

The Blue Jays pitcher of record was Chase Remme. Andres Lopez went 1-2, Gustavo Landin went 1-2 and Izaiah Davenport went 1-2 for the Blue Jays.


STCC CYCLONES 19 RAINY RIVER CC VOYAGEURS 10 (5/21 @ St. John's)

The Cyclones put up 9 runs in the first three innings for a 9-0 lead and it was looking it would be a short game of possible 5 innings. But it ended up over a 3 hour marathon with the Cyclones pounded out 18 hits and the Voyageurs with 14 hits. The starting pitcher for the Cyclones Ronnie Ingram a 6'5' freshman from Leesburg High School of Wildwood, Florida threw 3 1/3 innings. He gave up 7 hits, 5 runs, one walk and he recorded a strikeout. Michael Leffler a sophomore from Dassel Cokato High School of Cokato threw 3 innings. He gave up 4 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Lukas Lanners a 6'4" freshman from North High School of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, he recorded a strikeout in one inning of relief. Jake Brinker a freshman from Rocori High School of Cold Spring, Mn. He threw 2 1/3 inning, he gave up 2 hits and he recorded a strikeout.

The Cyclones Matt Quade had a big game, he went 3-6 with a home run and a double for 5 big RBI's and he scored 3 runs. Isaiah Almanza had a good game, he went 3-4 with a home run and a double for 3 RBI's, he walked and he scored 4 runs. Jonathon Fernandez went 3-5 with 2 doubles for 2 RBI's, one walk and he scored 2 runs. Carlos Reyes wen 3-5 with 3 doubles, and a sacrifice fly for 3 RBI's and he he scored 2 runs. Fabio Espinosa went 3-4 with 2 big RBI's, he scored 2 runs and he had a stolen base. Justin Barreneche went 2-4 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI and he scored 3 runs. Adam Gilsrud had sacrifice flys, he was hit by a pitch, had one walk and he scored a run. Justin Mohs went 1-4 with a walk and he scored a run and Zach Fuecker earned a pair of walks and he scored a run.

For the Voyageurs, Jonathan Castellanas was their pitcher of record. Keanu Calamayan went 2-4 with a RBI and he walked. Raheem Hasan went 2-4 with a pair of RBI's, one walk and he scored 2 runs. Lloyd Berhatz went 2-5 with a two RBI's and he scored a run, Easton Davis went 1-3 with a RBI and he scored 2 runs and Kevin Alireau went 2-4 and he scored a run.


RIVERLAND CC BLUE DEVILS 4 STCC CYCLONES 2 (5/21 @ St. John's)

The Cyclones quest for a trip to the National tournament came to an end with their second loss to Riverland CC. After their 3 hour marathon with Rainy River there wasn't a great deal of energy left. The Cyclones had a very successful season, as they posted a 38-5 record overall and they were Conference champions. Ismael Martinez was their starting pitcher and their pitcher of record. He threw 5 1/3 innings, he gave up 8 hits, 4 runs, one walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Michael Wiesmann a 6'6" sophomore from Moorhead High School of Moorhead, Mn threw 2 2/3 innings in relief. He gave up just one hit and he recorded 3 strikeouts.

Matt Quade went 2-4 and Zach Fuecker went 2-4 with a double, one stolen base and he scored a run. Isaiah Almanza went 1-3, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run and Alex Jinkins went 1-4 with a walk. Adam Gilsrud went 1-4 and Jose Rosario went 1-1 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI and Jonathon Fernandez had a sacrifice fly for a RBI.

The Blue Devils winning pitcher was Xavier Ocasio, he threw 7 innings. Jake Erickson went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Josh Molina went 2-4 with a RBI and Louis Rodriguez went 1-3 with a RBI. Jack McNellis went 1-4 with a RBI.
