(KNSI) - The St. Cloud Area hockey squad defeated the Sartell Sabres 6-5 on Thursday night.

Sartell was 14-5 coming into the season, with St. Cloud struggling at 6-12-2.

5 goals were scored in the first period. St. Cloud struck first, then Sartell answered 10 seconds after that.

St. Cloud scored 2 more goals within a short time to bring them up 3-1 near the end of the period.

With just a minute left, Sartell scored and brought the score to 3-2 going into the first intermission.

In the second period, St. Cloud scored first to put them up 4-2.

Sartell responded with 2 goals in a row to tie the game.

The score was 4-4 going in to the second intermission

In the last period, St. Cloud's Blake Keller scored the go ahead goal to put them up 5-4.

St. Cloud Christian Engel put the dagger in the game with a goal to put St. Cloud up 6-4.

Sartell had a desperation attempt with just 7 seconds left to make it 6-5, but were not able to follow it up.

The final score was 6-5 in favor of St. Cloud.

Blake Keller was selected as the All Star Trophy and Awards Player of the Game with 1 goal, which was the go ahead goal.
