(KNSI) - The waiting for Vikings training camp has finally come to an end as rookies practiced for the first time at newly-built Twin Cities Orthopedics (TCO) Performance Center.
The news of Tony Sparano and Bruce Grant passing away set a somber tone but the Vikings and staff are moving forward.
During his press conference, Mike Zimmer had nothing but respectful comments when talking about Sparano.
“Good football coach, good man.”
Zimmer also stated that getting back to work is part of the process.
“[It] takes a bit of the sting away.”
Spielman and Zimmer were both notably shaken up when discussing Sparano and his tendencies on and off the field.
The Vikings now have an offensive line coach position to fill but when asked about the vacancy, Spielman simply stated, “With respect, we’re not going down that road today.”
The Vikings will have a second practice today starting at 2:00 PM.
Although some veterans such as newly acquired quarterback, Kirk Cousins showed up today, the rest of the Veterans will report on Friday, August 27th.
Due to Sparano’s funeral, no practices will be held on the 27th.
Many questions should soon be answered as training camp progresses from today until September 9th when the Vikings host the San Francisco 49ers.
