With each report I will plan to include a game summary on the Huskies and also their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rivals. I will also plan to include any updated National and Regional ratings. The NSIC Standings with each wrap-up and a conference scoreboard. In the game summaries I will attempt to highlight any local players from their conference rival teams too. NCAA CENTRAL DII REGIONAL
SCSU HUSKIES 12 MISSOURI WESTERN GRIFFINS 0 (Trusler Sports Complex Emporia, Kansas) (5/19/17)
The Huskies defeated the Griffins 12-0, backed by a 15 hit attack and very good pitching performances by Cal Giese and Austin Caspersen. Cal a sophomore from Stevens Point Area High School of Plover, Wisconsin, started on the mound for the Huskies. He threw 6 very good innings, he scattered 4 hits, issued no walks and he recorded 7 strikeouts, to earn the win. Austin a senior from Centura High School of Boelus, Nebraska threw 3 innings in relief. He gave up 4 hits and he recorded one strikeout, to earn the save.
Several Huskies had good games at the plate, with Mitch Mallek a sophomore from Stevens Point Area High Schoo of Plover, Wisconsin. He went 4-5 with two big doubles for 3 big RBI's and he scored a pair of runs. Logan Swann a senior from Redwood Valley High School of Morgan, Mn had great game. He went 2-4 with a base clearing triple, he had 4 big RBI's for the game and he scored a run. Jackson Goplen a junior from St. Croix Lutheran High School went 2-5 with 2 RBI's and he scored a pair of runs. Cooper Maas a junior from Burnsville High School went 2-4 with a RBI. Overall the Huskies out fielders had a great game on the field and at the plate, Jackson, in Left field, Cooper in Center field and Logan in Right field. Mathew Meyer did the catching duties for the Huskies after having a great regular season at first base, he went 1-4 with a sacrifice bunt and he scored a pair of runs. The Huskies really lost nothing with Issac Matchinsky a junior from St. Cloud Tech does a nice job at first base, Issac went 1-3 with a walk for a RBI. The Huskies Golden Glover at third base, Ethan Ibarra a sophomore from Liberty High School of Las Vegas, Nevada. He continued hit good play on defense and he went 1-3 with a walk and he scored 3 runs. The Huskies young middle infielders continue to play good defense, Judd Davis a sophomore from New Ulm High School went 2-5. Jordan Joseph a Outstanding freshman seems to get better with each game at shortstop, he is from St. Michael Albertville HIgh School of St. Michael, Mn. He had a sacrifice bunt, he was hit by a pitch, credited with a RBI and he scored a pair of runs.
The pitcher of record for the Griffins was Richard Peoples. Dusty Stroup went 1-4 with a double and Levi Schreiner went 2-4. Nick Sawley went 2-4 and Bailey Zimmer went 2-4 for to led the Griffins.
SCSU HUSKIES 9 MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO MAVERICKS 4 (5/20/17)
The Huskies put up 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning, set the tempo for them the rest of the game. They collected 13 hits and they played errorless baseball to defeat their biggest rivals the Mavericks. With the win, it advances them to the finals of the regional winners bracket. The Huskies starting pitcher, Dominic Austing a junior from St. Cloud Cathedral threw 6 2/3 innings to earn the win. He did scatter 7 hits, walked 2, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 9 big strikeouts. Shanon Ahern a lefty from Academy of the Holy Angels threw 1 inning in relief, he gave up 2 hits, 2 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Miles Nablo a senior from Eden Prairie High School of Eden Prairie, Mn threw the final 1 1/3 innings, to earn the save. Miles issued one walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts, for his 7th save of the season.
The Huskies got on the board in the top of first inning, when Judd Davis led of with a single and Jordan Joseph followed with a double and Mitch Mallek's sacrifice fly and a single by Mathew Meyer and they had two big runs on the board. Judd Davis may have has his best day as a Huskie, he went 4-5 with a base clearing triple in the top of 9th inning for three big RBI's for the game, he scored a run and he was hit by a pitch. Logan Swann had a big game, as he went 3-4 with a pair of doubles for 2 big RBI's, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Mathew Meyer had a big game, he called a great game behind the plate, but he went 2-5 with a RBI and he scored a run. Mitch Mallek went 1-2 with a home run and 2 sacrifice flys for a pair of RBI's. Jordan Joseph went 1-5 with his big double in the 1st inning, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Ethan Ibarra went 1-4 with a walk and he scored a run, Cooper Maas went 1-5 and he scored a pair of runs and Jackson Goplen earned three walks and he scored a run.
The pitcher of record for the Mavericks was Brody Rodning. Eric Peterson had a big day for the Mavericks, he went 3-4 with a double and he earned a walk. Luke Walden went 2-4 with a 2 run home run and Hunter Harnisch went 1-3 with a RBI, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a pair of runs. Dylan Dresel went 1-4 with a triple for a pair of RBI's.
LINDENWOOD MISSOURI 10 SCSU HUSKIES 8 (5/21 @ Emporia, Kansas)
The Huskies put together a rally but they fell short in the finals of the winner bracket 10-8 to Lindenwood. Starting pitcher for the Huskies was Zach Siggelkow a sophomore from St. Anthony Village High School. He threw 2 2/3 innings, gave up 5 hits, 6 runs, one walk and he recorded a strikeout. Aaron Hammann a freshman from Chaparral High School of Parker, Colorado threw 1 1/3 innings in relief, he gave up a hit and one walk. Kyle Boser a sophomore from Little Falls High School of Little Falls, Minnesota, threw 2 1/3 innings in relief. He gave up 3 hits, one run and he recorded a strikeout. Mile Nablo threw the final 3 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, 3 runs and he issued one walk.
The Huskies did collect 15 hits with Judd Davis had a bit game, he went 4-5 and he scored a run. Mitch Malek went 3-5 with a double for 2 RBI's and he scored a pair of runs. Jackson Goplen went 2-5 with a RBI and Ethan Ibarra went 1-4 with a big 2 run home run for a pair of RBI's. Cooper Maas went 1-3 with a RBI, two walks and he scored 2 runs. Mathew Meyer went 2-4 with a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run and Logan Swann went 1-4 with a walk. Jordan Joseph went 1-4 with a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run and Bo Schmitz walked and he scored a run.
For Lindenwood, Kyle Hentis was their winning pitcher. Drew Quinones went 2-4 with a double for a RBI, he walked and he scored 3 runs. Paul Sherwood went 2-5 with 3 RBI's and Kyle Teter went 2-4 with a double and a sacrifice fly for a RBI and he scored a run. Sam Baxter went 1-4 with a double for 2 RBI's and he earned a walk. Tyler Muehling went 1-4 with a double for a RBI and Wes Degerer went 1-5 with a double and he scored a run.
CENTRAL OKLAHOMA 14 SCSU HUSKIES 8 (5/21 @ Emporia, Kansas
The Huskies pitching staff was simply wore out after the Lindenwood game and the previous games of the region. Yet they still battled Central Oklahoma to the end. Austin Caspersen started on the mound, he threw just 2/3 of an inning and Kevin Bolder threw 2 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. David Kroger threw 1 2/3 inning, he gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, 3 runs. Kyle Boser threw 1 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up 2 hits and he recorded one strikeout. Mathew Meyer went 2-5 with a double for 2 RBI's and Judd Davis went 2-5. Jordan Joseph went 2-5 and Mitch Mallek went 1-5 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Logan Swann went 1-5 with a 2 run home run and Ethan Ibarra went 2-5 and he scored a run. Jackson Goplen went 1-4 with a walk and he scored a run, Isaac Matchinsky was hit by a pitch and he scored a run and Trevor Cho earned a walk.
For Central Oklahoma, Jaycee Parker started on the mound and B. Stuber earned the win in relief. T. J. Sparr went 3-5 with a home run and a double for 3 RBI's, he had a stolen base and he scored 3 runs. Dayne Sommer went 2-3 with a RBI and he scored a run, and Jon Kamies went 2-4 with a double for a RBI, he walked and he scored 3 runs. Caleb Peters went 2-4 with a double for 2 RBI's and he scored a run and Justin Brown went 2-4 with a RBI, a stolen base and he scored a run.
This young Huskies squad did accomplish a great deal this season, they posted 41 wins on the season. This young team has to be looking forward to the next couple of seasons with a great deal of excitement. There will be some big things happening in the Husky baseball program in the next couple of seasons.
