(KNSI) - A local high school educator and coach is getting a big and very well-deserved honor.

The full news release from St. Cloud Cathedral High School is below

St. Cloud Cathedral Head Baseball Coach Bob Karn will be inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches' Association Hall of Fame next month. He will be inducted at the association's national convention on June 26, 2018, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Bob is a 1959 graduate of Cathedral High School. He has taught English and coached at Cathedral for 49 years - 48 seasons as Head Baseball Coach. Bob's teams have won nine state championships and he is the winningest coach in Minnesota High School Baseball history. He has been named the Minnesota Coach of the Year five times, and was named the National Coach of the Year in 2015.

Karn also was Cathedral's Head Basketball Coach from 1973-1991 and again from 1999-2003. He also served as an assistant football coach early in his career.

Bob is a member of the Cathedral Athletic Hall of Fame, the Minnesota Baseball Coaches' Hall of Fame, The Minnesota High School Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame, The Minnesota State High School League Hall of Fame, and the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. He currently serves as the Curator of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame located in St. Cloud.

For 25 years, Karn served as the director of baseball and softball programs for St. Cloud Park and Rec in the summer. He is a tireless advocate for youth programs .

Karn is a lifelong member of St. Paul's Parish and a member of Sports, Inc. that promotes youth and amateur baseball in the St. Cloud Area. He and his wife Karen have three children: Emily, Anne, and Aaron; and four grandchildren: Eli, Nyah, Cole, and Elizabeth.
