(KNSI) - A hockey standout at Cathedral High School has accomplished his dream to play Division I college hockey in just his sophomore year.
Crusaders center Jack Smith, from St. Cloud, has verbally committed to play hockey for the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Smith said it was an easy decision after he took a trip to UMD.
"I visited there last summer and I actually fell in love with it when I went there, just the city, the campus, I love the rink and the facilities they have and the coaches."
The talented scorer chose Duluth over Ohio State University and St. Cloud State after a little guidance from his parents.
"They just basically said follow your heart, do what you want, if that's the right place, I mean go for it, but they basically told me the work starts now so you don't fall behind and keep developing."
Smith has 16 goals so far this season for Cathedral.
After an impressive win over third ranked Orono heard on KNSI Thursday night, the Crusaders host Mahtomedi Saturday afternoon.
You can hear that game on KNSI with coverage starting at 12:45 p.m.
