(KNSI) - The Cathedral Crusaders fell to the Minnehaha Academy Redhawks in the state semifinals 77-51 on Friday.
The Redhawks defense proved to be too much for the Crusaders as they struggled to make baskets in the first half.
The big highlight came from Mitchell Plombon with a tomahawk slam over a Redhawks player, which pumped up the team and the crowd.
The Redhawks took a 42-24 lead into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the staunch defense of the Redhawks continues as the Crusaders weren't able to score a basket for several minutes.
A breakaway slam dunk from Plombon got the Crusaders some momentum, and they were able to cut the lead to 16.
That was as close as they would get to winning.
Turnovers and fast breaks were the big reason why Cathedral lost.
The final score of the game was 77-51 in favor of the Redhawks.
Mitchel Plombon led the team with 20 points, and was selected as the All Star Trophy and Awards player of the game.
Michael Schaefer had 16 points.
Both Plombon and Schefer are seniors and will not be returning to the team next year.
Cathedral will play for third place Saturday at Noon.
