(KNSI) - Much like spring activities, many entities have to play a rapid game of catch-up.

For the second time this week, an athlete from St. Cloud Cathedral Girls Golf wins a normally weekly award.

Although a sophomore from the same team was awarded earlier this week, Larkin Vangsness showed that it takes more than one overachiever to make a great team.

Winning a golf meet takes clutch play throughout its entirety but when one is part of the final grouping, play is under a much bigger magnifying glass.

When Cathedral needed a score of 50 out of their newer varsity member to win, that is exactly what Vangsness gave them.

Vangsness then followed that clutch performance up by shooting a personal-best 91 May 7th to finish third-overall.

After the tournament ended, most of the girls from the team decided to go home and rest but not Vangsness.

Vangsness asked her coach, Angela Heisner, if she could go back to school to finish out her day in the classroom.

Vangsness just started seeing some varsity playing at the end of last season but coach Heisner is loving what she has witnessed from the sophomore.

“I’ve seen a lot of growth from [Larkin] and I know it will only continue to get better.”

The Cathedral Girls Golf Team will hope to continue to see low scores from Vangsness Monday, May 12th, when they take on four schools at Albany Golf Club.

A great showing may just bolster the young team’s confidence to make a run at an entrance into the state tournament.

Congratulations Larkin and good luck to you and Cathedral golf in your future endeavors!
