(KNSI) - Although St. Cloud Cathedral’s hockey season came to a close more than one month ago, that does not mean one of their players should not win this weekly award.
Extraordinary play from one of the Crusaders’ defenders most undoubtedly had something to do with the great season they put forth.
Some coaches from the Minnesota State High School League echoed that thought process when they voted Jeron Hirschfeld to the Great 8 Tournament.
The Great 8 Tournament teams are selected by dividing up all 8 sections into four different teams.
Hirschfeld played on the team comprised of the best seniors from Sections 2 and 6 on March 23rd through March 25th.
The senior captain also was selected to the 1st Team All Section 6A and was a Reed Larson Award Finalist.
Although Hirschfeld did not win the award, the nomination means the voters considered him to be one of the state’s best senior defensemen.
Playing in the Great 8 Tournament capped off a brilliant career in which Hirschfeld lettered four years, was captain for two years and tallied 100 points in just over 100 games played.
Along with tweeting some nice sentiments about Hirschfeld, coach Brown said, “[Jeron] was a leader on and off the ice for us.”
Congratulations Jeron and good luck to you in your future endeavors!
