(KNSI) - Diving may have been just for “playing” when youth prevailed, but for someone to win a state championship as a diver, it takes years of hard work and dedication.
On March 3rd, Jack Grabinski of Sauk Rapids-Rice High School capped-off his incredible month of championship diving by adding a gold medal to his possession.
Along with his state championship, Grabinski became CLC Champion, broke the Sartell High School Pool Record, set the Sauk Rapids-Rice High School Record and was Section 3A Champion. Not a bad month.
Grabinski’s jump from fifth in 2017 to first in 2018 is enough to name the Sauk Rapids-Rice junior this week’s All-Star Trophy Player of the Week.
According to head coach, Ray Nelson, “[Jack] has excelled tremendously in and out of the classroom.”
Nelson went on to describe how Grabinski’s talent and calm demeanor are always on display for his teammates, “He is incredibly composed and it has led to his successes.”
Coach Nelson went into a little more detail be saying, “Jack has an ability to throw new dives without fear and this has helped his gradual improvement over the years.”
Coach Nelson also attributed Grabinksi’s success to his coaches Kayla Poole and Henry Ewers.
“Both [coaches] allowed him to be comfortable, refine all of his fundamentals and allow him to be confident and composed.”
Hopefully all involved will continue to help Grabinksi improve as he will be back next year for his senior year to defend his Class A MN State Diving gold medal.
Congrats and good luck in your future endeavors, Jack!
