ST. CLOUD, Minn. (MSC) – In a come from behind win against Rocori two weeks ago, the Tech Tigers turned to some key names on their stifling defense to help the offensive attack. One of those names, Austin Klaverkamp, has proved he belongs on both sides of the line. For his most recent efforts he earned All Star Trophy and Award Metro Sports Commission Player of the Week honors.
Klaverkamp, a three year starter at linebacker, has gradually become a significant dual threat, turning around to carry the ball as a fullback for the Tigers. This past Friday night in a 21-14 win over Sauk Rapids Rice Klaverkamp rolled up 161 yards on the ground and notched three touchdowns. He keyed a ground attack that amassed 286 rush yards as a team.
The final touchdown of the day for Klaverkamp came from just 5 yards out, but his first two scores came after ripping off big chunks of real estate, showing the senior's ability to put distance between himself and a pursuing defender. Klaverkamp scored from 30 and 50 yards out.
The Tigers and their two way player of the week meet St. Cloud Apollo in a key Central Lakes South match-up this coming Friday. Hear that game live on AM 1010 WMIN.
