Pat Fischer had a good year. As a wide receiver he helped the Sabres football team to the sectional finals. He added to his great year by guiding the Sabres basketball squad to a sectional title last week.
The week began for the senior point guard with 23 points in a thrilling title game win over Fergus Falls in Section 8AAA 57-55. The victory, a culmination of an outstanding season for Fischer, who is headed to Bemidji State on a basketball scholarship after graduation, gave the Sabres their first ever section title and trip to state. The engine that made the Sabres offense go all season, Fischer tallied six assists in the title game and also contributed three steals defensively to the cause.
While it was a first round exit for the Sabres against top ranked DeLaSalle, Fischer again proved a steady hand with the basketball, racking up 11 assists and six points in the eventual 15 point loss to the Islanders. With the game much closer, inside a 10 point margin for much of the contest, Fischer's senior leadership was a calming effluence to allow the underdog Sabres to at least keep the chance of a close game alive.
In a week of highs and lows, Patrick Fischer played his game, kept his cool and succeeded at a high level, earning him Metro Sports Commission player of the week honors.
Congratulations Patrick Fischer on being the All Star Trophy and Awards Player of the Week!
