Two Top Dogs in Central Lakes Go At It For Top Spot In Conference

Jan 9, 2013 at 8:12 am

Hi there, I am Brandon Kraft, the new guy here at the Metro Sports Commission. I’m very proud to now be coving the Metro Sports Commission for you.  If you love boy’s high school hockey like I do, this is going to be a great week. The two top dogs in the conference, St Cloud Tech and Alexandria, will both be in action Tuesday night. This could lead up to a battle for the lead in the Central Lakes Conference as Tech travels to Alexandria this Thursday night.

With Tech leading Alexandria by only three points in the tightly contested Central Lakes conference, a win by Alexandria on the road Tuesday night against River Lakes, could make things very interesting. The Tech Tigers will be at home Tuesday night as they host Fergus Falls at the National Hockey and Events Center. Both teams have stumbled losing two of their last three games going into Tuesday night. They will look to right the ship this week, and most likely turn to their leading scorers to stay atop the Central Lakes Conference.

Tech will be looking to lean on a pair of juniors over these next two games. Tanner Skaja will look to stay hot for the Tigers as the leader in both goals, and points so far this season, and Austin Althaus will look to keep his great season going. Althaus has been very good in net this season compiling a 2.61 GAA and a .907 save percentage. As great as Althaus has been, Alexandria goalie Ben Allen has been better. Allen has a miniscule 2.14 GAA and a very impressive .928 save percentage. Alexandria will look to keep its balanced attack going by having 5 players in double figures in points.

With a win by Alexandria and a loss by Tech Tuesday night, the stage will be set for a showdown for the top spot in the conference this Thursday night. We are almost half way through the winter sports regular season, and you know we will be right here to cover it all.
