(KNSI) – Two area teams have advanced to the state semifinals in boys’ high school soccer.

In Class A, perhaps it isn’t surprising that Cathedral would make a serious run at a championship. The Crusaders have been sterling all year. Still undefeated, the team has yielded just three goals on the season.

They took to the pitch on Wednesday in Monticello against Duluth Marshall with a familiar result. Cathedral won the game, 2-0. Shutout #17 improved the squad’s overall record to 20-0-0.

Next Wednesday, the Crusaders will invade U.S. Bank Stadium at 5:00 p.m. for the Class A semifinal against Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa. The teams already played on Thursday, September 28th, in the regular season. That was a 2-0 win for Cathedral.

In Class AA, St. Cloud Tech stunned Cloquet/Esko/Carlton, winning in penalty shots. The Tigers’ Caleb Campina knotted the match at one with barely three minutes remaining.

The teams fought through two overtimes before they settled it inside the penalty box. Tech kicked first in the shootout. Both keepers made the initial save. Both keepers allowed a goal in the second round. Teagan Gazdzik put Tech ahead by one after three with a goal. Tech scored on its next two kicks to win 4-2.

The Tigers will try to spring a trap against Hill-Murray next Wednesday. Kick-off is at 2:30 p.m.
