ST. PAUL, Minn. (KNSI) - Two favorites rolled to state championships while one three seed got hot at the right time.
In class A top seeded Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City cruied through the first couple of rounds, scoring wins over Sibley East and Jackson County Central earning a spot in the finals versus #3 seed Chatfield. Unfortunately for ACGC, Chatfield was red hot and scored the 38-22 win earning themselves a state title.
In class AA, second seeded Foley had no problem in the first round as the Falcons dispatched Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus 35-27. That earned them a matchup with 3rd seeded Scott West, which proved to be too much, falling 30-23. Scott West went on to lose in the final to top seeded Simley.
And in class AAA, Apple Valley was far and away the best team of the tournament. In three combined matches Apple Valley outscored their opponents 185-16. St. Michael-Albertville had a good showing as the won the first round with a win over Moorhead, but the second round match-up with Prior Lakes was too much.
