SCSU HUSKY BASEBALL WRAP-UP

With each report I will plan to include a game summary on the Huskies and also their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rivals. I will also plan to include any updated National and Regional ratings. The NSIC Standings with each wrap-up and a conference scoreboard. In the game summaries I will attempt to highlight any local players from their conference rival teams too. For more on Husky Baseball see the school's website. 

SCSU HUSKIES 5 MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MANKATO MAVERICKS 2 (7 In./Mankato) (Thursday April 13th)

The Huskies collected their 6 hits at clutch times; that was enough support for the Huskies starting pitcher, Dominic Austing. A freshman from Cathedral High School, threw his best game of the season, he threw a complete game, giving up just 4 hits, 1 walk, 2 runs and he recorded 9 strikeouts.

The Huskies offense was led by their middle infielders, lead off hitter Judd Davis went 1-3 with a walk, one stolen base and he scored a run. Jordan Joseph went 2-3 with a sacrifice bunt for 2 RBI's. Bo Schmitz called a great game, behind the plate, at the plate he went 1-4 with a RBI and he had one stolen base. Jackson Goplen went 1-3 with a big home run and Ethan Ibarra, the vacuum at third base, had a sacrifice bunt for a RBI, a stolen base and he scored a run. Logan Swann went 1-3 and he scored a run and Cooper Maas walked and he scored a run.

Brody Rodning was the starting pitcher for the Mavericks and their pitcher of record. Josh Wenzel went 1-3 with a home run, Hunter Walsh went 1-3 with a RBI, Noah Bluth went 1-3 and Tyler Burg went 1-2.


MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MANKATO MAVERICKS 10 SCSU HUSKIES 3 (9 In.)
(Thursday April 13th)

The Mavericks showed why they are one of the top ranked teams in all of division two, although they had just 8 hits, they were very clutch hits. With an early grand slam in the first inning, after the Huskies had put up 3 runs in the top of the first inning. Aaron Hammann was the Huskies starting pitcher, he was the pitcher of record. Lefty Zach Siggelkow from St. Anthony Village High School threw 7 innings of relief, he scattered 5 hits, surrendered 5 runs, walked one and he recorded 4 strikeouts.

Two Huskies had multiple hit games, Mathew Meyer a sophomore from Sauk Rapids High school went 2-4 with a double and Judd Davis a sophomore from New Ulm went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run. Bo Schmitz a junior from Cathedral High School went 1-4 with 2 RBI's and Logan Swann a senior from Redwood Valley High School went 1-4. Mitch Mallek a sophomore from Stephens Points Area High School walked and he scored a run and Jackson Goplen a junior from St. Croix Lutheran High School earned a walk and he was hit by a pitch.

NIck Belzer started on the hump for the Mavericks and he was their pitcher of record. Eric Peterson had a huge game he went 3-4 with a home run and a triple for 3 RBI's and he scored 3 runs. Jordan Hart went 3-4 with a pair of home runs for 5 big RBI's and Josh Wenzel, from Little Falls High School went 1-3 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run.
MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO MAVERICKS 5 SCSU HUSKIES 4 (9 Innings)
(Friday April 14th)

The Huskies did collect 11 hits, but they could not get that timely hit, as they dropped a 5-4 decision to the #19 Nationally ranked Mavericks. The Huskies starting pitcher Austin Caspersen a senior from Centura High School of Nebraska battled the Mavericks for 6 innings. He scattered 5 hits, surrendered 4 runs, walked one and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Miles Nablo a senior from Eden Prairie High School threw 2 1/3 innings of relief, he gave up 5 hits, 1 walk, 1 run and he recorded a strikeout. Miles was the pitcher of record in this battle of NSIC rivals.

The Huskies had two players that had multi hit games, Bo Schmitz a junior from Cathedral High School had a good game, he went 3-5 with a RBI, 1 stolen base and he scored a run. Mathew Meyer a sophomore from Sauk Rapids High School went 3-4 with a RBI. Mitch Mallek went 1-4 with a solo home run and a RBI by way of a fielders choice for a pair of RBI's. Logan Swann a senior from Redwood Valley High School went 1-4 and Cooper Maas a junior from Burnsville High School went 1-4 with a stolen base. Judd Davis a sophomore from New Ulm High School, went 1-4 and he scored a run and Jackson Goplen a junior from St. Croix Lutheran High School was hit twice by the pitch.

Aaron Razek was the pitcher of record for the Mavericks, with 2 2/3 innings of work. Josh Wenzel went 2-4 with the walk off hit and he was hit by a pitch. Hunter Walsh went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run and Tommy McDonald went 1-4 with a double for 2 RBI's.


SCSU HUSKIES 9 MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO MAVERICKS 5 (7 Innings)

The Huskies patience paid off as they earned 6 walks and 7 hits to defeat the Mavericks and earn a split with the #19th nationally ranked rival. David Kroger a senior from Sauk Rapids High School started on the mound. David didn't fare well as he worked 2 innings, gave up 6 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks and he had a strike out. He has been working out of the bullpen in relief in most of his outings. Kevin Bolder a lefty from Tomahawk High School of Wisconsin was lights out. He threw 5 innings of relief, he gave up just 1 hit and he recorded 7 strikeouts to earn the win.

The Huskies had 6 individuals earn hits, but everyone was involved in their offense. Bo Schmitz continues to swing a hot bat, he went 2-3 with a RBI, a stolen base, 1 walk and he scored a run. Mitch Mallek went 2-3 with a walk and he scored a run and Ethan Ibarra another good defensive game at 3rd base, he went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Mathew Meyer went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Judd Davis from his lead off spot, went 1-3 with a walk, 1 stolen base, hit by a pitch once and he scored a run. Logan Swann had a one RBI, earned 2 walks, was hit by a pitch and he scored a run and Jordan Joseph had 1 RBI and he scored a pair of runs. Jackson Goplen earned a walk and he scored a run and Cooper Maas had a sacrifice bunt. They now have built their season record to 27-11 and in the NSIC 18-8.

Cody O'Brien was the pitcher of record for the Mavericks in his relief performance. Eric Peterson went 3-4 with a double for 2 RBI's, one stolen base and he scored a run. Dyaln Dresel went 1-3 with a home run and Josh Wenzel went 1-4 with a double and he scored a run.
