SCSU HUSKY BASEBALL WRAP-UP

With each report I will plan to include a game summary on the Huskies and also their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rivals. I will also plan to include any updated National and Regional ratings. The NSIC Standings with each wrap-up and a conference scoreboard. In the game summaries I will attempt to highlight any local players from their conference rival teams too. For more on Husky Baseball see the school's website. 


SCSU HUSKIES 4 UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH BULLDOGS 3 (Duluth)

The Huskies put up 4 runs in the 4th inning and they held off the Bulldogs for the 4-3 win. Lefty Cal Giese started on the mound for the Huskies, he threw a complete game, he scattered 9 hits, 3 runs, no walks and he recorded 8 big strikeouts. The sophomore from Stevens Points Area High School of Wisconsin earned the win, he now has a 6-2 record on the season.

The Huskies only collected 6 hits, but the bunch them in the 4th inning, Logan Swann a senior form Redwood Valley High School went 1-3 with a big triple for 2 RBI's and he scored a run. Mitch Mallek a sophomore from Stevens Point Area High School, a class mate of Cal Giese, went 2-3 with a RBI and he scored a run. Bo Schmitz a junior from Cathedral High School went 1-3 and he scored a run and Mathew Meyer a sophomore from Sauk Rapids High School went 1-3 and he scored a run. Cooper Maas a junior from Burnsville High School went 1-3 with a RBI and Judd Davis a sophomore from New Ulm High School earned a walk and he had a stolen base.

Ryan Cunningham was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs and the pitcher of record. Drew Steward went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Chase Thomas went 1-4 with a RBI. Kyle Hoffman went 2-3 with a double and he scored a run, Brian Pierce went 2-2 and he scored 2 runs and Grant Farley went 2-4.

 

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH BULLDOGS 7 SCSU HUSKIES 3

The Huskies were not able to slow the bats of the Bulldogs down, as they collected 14 hits. The big inning for the Bulldogs was the 3rd inning, when they put up 3 runs. Shannon Ahern a freshman from Holy Angels Academy started on the mound, he threw 4 2/3 innings, gave up 10 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and he had 1 strikeout. David Kroger a senior from Sauk Rapids High School threw 1 1/3 innings, he gave up a hit, 2 runs, 2 walks and he had a strikeout. Zach Siggelkow a sophomore from St. Anthony Village High School threw 1 inning, gave up 2 hits, and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Miles Nablo a senior from Eden Prairie High School threw the final inning, he gave up 1 hit, 1 run and he recorded one strikeout.

The Huskies pounded the ball for 12 hits, but they couldn't punch them for any more run production. Jordan Joseph a freshman from Saint Michael-Albertville went 3-5 with a double for a RBI and Judd Davis went 1-5 with a triple for a RBI. Mitch Mallek went 2-4 with a double and he was hit by a pitch and Bo Schmitz went 2-4 with a walk and he scored a run. Logan Swann continues to stay hot, he went 3-4 and he was hit by a pitch and Cooper Maas went 1-3 with a stolen base, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run. Jackson Goplen a junior from St. Croix Lutheran High School had a sacrifice bunt and Mathew Meyer earned a walk.

Colin Baumgard was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs and he was also the pitcher of record. Chase Thomas went 2-3 with 2 RBI's and Kyle Hoffman went 3-4 with a double for 2 RBI's and he scored a run. Grant Farley went 2-5 with 2 doubles and a RBI, he scored 2 runs and Brian Pierce went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and he scored a run. Drew Stewart went 2-5 and Tyler Wojo went 2-4 and he scored a run.
