MSC Wrestling Squad December Recap

Sartell Sabres

The Sabres had a great start to their 2012-2013 wrestling season with their performance as they earned 179 points to claim third place at the Melrose "Early Bird" Invitational. They had ten wrestlers place in the top five with Daniel Vitale and Brady Goebel both winning championships and Drew Bienusa, Rylee Molitor and Creedance McDermond all earned second place. Jake Fernholtz and Antone Then both earned third place along with Theo Deaull, Zach Peterson and Zach Motschke all taking fifth place. They had another very solid performance with 149 points to claim fourth place at the Big Lake "Hornets" Invitational. Dan Vitale won a championship and Drew Bienusa and Zach Pedereson both earned second place. Rylee Moliter and Zach Motschke both earned third place, Brady Goebel, Jon Pelach, Thoe Deuel and Sam Krauel all earned fourth place and Garrett Counter took fifth place. The Sabres had a pair of big dual meet wins over Central Lakes Conference rivals Fergus Falls 38-27 and Rocori 54-13. The Sabres were a little short handed and yet earned 85.5 points to claim eleventh place at the thirty-two field team event at the Redwood Valley "River Riot" Invitational. Dan Vitale earned second place, Brady Goeble earned third place, Zach Motschke earned fifth place and Rylee Molitor took sixth place.

St. Cloud Apollo Eagles

The Eagles started their season with a strong showing with 121 points to earned second place at the Saint Michael-Albertville "Knights Classic" Invitational. Mitch Bengtson and Grant Nehring both won championships, Peter Nelson earned second place, Dylan Tilbury and Bryce Kirchner both earned third place, Matt Braun earned fourth place and Dylan Mehr took fifth place. They topped Central Lakes Conference rival Sauk Rapids 40-38 and dropped a pair of duals to Central Lakes Conference rivals Fergus Falls 37-36 and to Brainerd 59-20. The Eagles earned sixth place at the Big Lake "Hornet" Invitational with 122 points. Peter Nelson, Mitch Bengtson and Grant Nehring all won championships. Matt Braun earned second place, Brandon Kardus earned fourth place, Drew VanVleet, Kevin Cao and Bryce Kirchner all took fifth place. The Eagles dropped a pair of non-conference duals to No. 7A ranked Pierz 45-27 and to No. 6AA ranked Milaca 51-20.

Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm

The Storm started their 2012-2013 wrestling season with a sixth place and 89 points at the Litchfield "Dragons Classic" Tournament. Taylor Rau and Austin Walz both won championships and Trent Klejesk earned third place. Charlie Rudy earned fourth place and Tony Bemboom took fifth place. They had a very good tournament performance with 131 points to earn fourth place at the Maple Grove Invitational. Taylor Rau won his second tournament of the season, Chris Keske and Charlie Rudy both earned second place, Austin Walz earned third place and Tony Bemboom and Korey Keske both earned fourth place. The Storm dropped a pair of Central Conference duals to Fergus Falls 40-28 and to Saint Cloud Apollo 40-38. They also dropped to non-conference dual to Anoka 53-20.

Rocori Spartans

The Spartans had a good tourney performance to start off their season with 100 points to earn sixth place at the Melrose "Early Bird" Invitational. Nick Warne and Tyler Hoffman both won championships, Kolten Resseman earned second place, Cory Buerman earned third place and Seth Klein earned fourth place. They took ninth place at the Shakopee "Sabres" invitaional with 42 points. Tyler Hoffman and Adam Kunz both earned fourth place and Shane Childers took fifth place. They dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to Sartell 54-13.

St. Cloud Tech Tigers

The Tigers took eighth place at the Saint Michael-Albertville "Knights" Invitational with 45 points. Jared Nieland earned second place, Cole Schreder and Austin Brenner both earned fourth place and Noah Voigt took fifth place. They had 81 points at the Willmar "Cardinal Classic" Initational, Noah Voight and Luke Dorn both earned second place, Jerrad Neiland earned third place and Patrick Neihaus earned fourth place. The Tigers dropped duals to AAA foes Wayzata 51-28 and to Stillwater 41-1
