Husky Baseball Wrap-Up

SCSU HUSKY BASEBALL WRAP-UP

With each report I will plan to include a game summary on the Huskies and also their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rivals. I will also plan to include any updated National and Regional ratings. The NSIC Standings with each wrap-up and a conference scoreboard. In the game summaries I will attempt to highlight any local players from their conference rival teams too. For more on Husky Baseball see the school's website.

 

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY OF ST. PAUL GOLDEN BEARS 8 SCSU HUSKIES 5 (7 Innings/Faber)
The Huskies were defeated by the Golden Bears in the first of a four game set 8-5, They collected 12 hits off of the Huskies pitching staff along with a pair of errors gave them the edge. The Golden Bears put up 4 runs in the fourth inning and 2 more in the top of the 7th inning to seal the win for them. Austin Caspersen from Centura High School of Nebraska started on the mound, he threw 3 1/3 innings, gave up 6 hits, 3 walks, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded one strikeout. Zach Siggelkow a lefty from St. Anthony Village High School threw 1 2/3 innings, gave up 3 hits, 2 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. David Kroger a Sauk Rapids High School graduate threw 1 2/3 innings, he gave up 3 hits, 2 runs and he recorded a pair of strikeouts. Kyle Boser from Little Falls High School retired the last batter.

The Huskies collected 8 hits, led by a pair of players that had multiply hits, Cooper Maas a junior from Burnsville High School, went 2-4 for 1 RBI and he scored a run and Zach Metzger a senior from Sunnyvale High School of Texas, went 2-3 with a RBI. Bo Schmitz, from Cathedral High School, went 1-3 with a big 2 run single in the bottom of the 5th inning, to make it a 1 run game. Judd Davis a sophomore from New Ulm High School went 1-4 with a double and he scored 2 runs. Logan Swan a senior from Redwood Valley High School went 1-3 and Jordan Joseph a freshman from St. Michael-Albertville High School went 1-3. Mitch Mallek a sophomore from Stevens Points Area High School of Wisconsin drove in a run by way of a fielders choice. Ethan Ibarra a sophomore from Liberty High School of Nevada walked and he scored a run.

Gus Varland was the starting pitcher for the Golden Bears and he earned the win, he is now 5-2 on the season. Mickey Leuis went 3-4 with a home run for 3 RBI's and he scored a run. Side note Mickey is the son of former Twin's ball player Scott Leius. Zach Elder went 2-3 with a 2 run home run, he walked and he scored 4 runs. Connor Olson went 2-4 and Ben Suis went 2-4 with a double and he scored run.

 

SCSU HUSKIES 5 CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY OF ST. PAUL GOLD BEARS 4 (9 Innings)

The Huskies played errorless ball and they collected 12 hits, the Golden Bears did have a big inning, scoring 3 in the fourth inning. It was 4-3 entering the 9th inning and the Huskies put up the tying run and the winning run. Aaron Hammann a freshman from Chaparral High School of Colorado started on the mound. He threw 6 1/3 innings, he scattered 11 hits, walked 1, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Kyle Boser a sophomore from Little Falls High School threw 1 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win, he gave up 1 hit, 1 walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Miles Nablo a senior from Eden Prairie High School closed in out in the 9th inning to earn the save, he recorded one strikeout.

The Huskies were led on offense by several players; Bo Schmitz had a big game, he went 3-4 with a big triple in the 3rd inning to drive in 2 runs. The Huskies middle infielders not only played great defense. Jordan Joseph the Husky shortstop went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run and Judd Davis the Husky second baseman went 2-5 and he scored a run. Mathew Meyer went 1-4 with a RBI and Mitch Mallek went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Logan Swan, the Husky left fielder went 2-1 with a walk, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run. Ethan Ibarra went 1-3 with a huge sacrifice fly late in the game to drive in a run. Trevor Cho had a big pinch hit sacrifice bunt in the 9th inning and Cooper Maas went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt.

Kevin Woebke was the starting pitcher for the Golden Bears, he threw 6 innings and Josh Lenz threw 2 innings in relief and he was the pitcher of record. Adam Hildebrandt went 3-4 with a sacrifice bunt and he scored a pair of runs. Carter Schmidt went 3-5 with a RBI and he scored a run. Ben Suits went 2-5 with a pair of RBI's.


SCSU HUSKIES 9 CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY OF ST. PAUL GOLDEN BEAR 3 (7 Innings)

The Huskies collected 10 hits, including six extra base hits to defeat the Golden Bears, this was great support for the Husky pitching staff. Their starting pitcher Dominik Austing, a sophomore from Cathedral High School started and he threw a very good 5 innings to earn the win. He scattered 5 hits, surrendered 2 runs, 2 walks and he recorded 8 big strikeouts. Lefty Zach Siggelkow threw 2 innings of relief to close it out for the Huskies, he gave up 2 hits, 1 run and he recorded 2 strikeouts.

The Huskies middle infield defense has been very good thru out the season, both Judd Davis and Jordan Joseph are keys to the Huskies offense too. Judd in his lead off position, went 1-4 with a triple for 2 big RBI's, he walked and he scored a run. Jordan a redshirt freshman, got moved up in the order and he delivered in a big way, he went 1-2 with a 2 run home run and a sacrifice fly for 2 big RBI's. He hit the first of three home runs, that were consecutive, as Bo Schmitz went 2-4 with a home run and a double for 1 RBI and he scored 2 runs. Bo continues to do a very good job as their leader on the field from his catcher position. Zach Metzger went 1-3 with a home run and he walked and Mathew Meyer went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Mitch Mallek went 2-3 with a double and he earned a walk and Ethan Ibarra went 1-3 with a RBI and he scored 2 runs. Logan Swann and Cooper Maas both cover a lot of ground in the outfield, as they continue to play solid defense. Logan walked and he scored a run and Cooper Maas earned a walk.

Keanu Mendez was the starting pitcher for the Golden Bears and the pitcher of record. Isaac Hormann went 2-4 with a double, Connor Olson went 1-4 with a double for a RBI and Zach Elder went 1-3 with a home run.

 


SCSU HUSKIES 8 CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY OF ST. PAUL GOLDEN BEARS 5 (9 Innings)

The Huskies collected 10 hits, including six extra base hits to defeat the Golden Bears for the third time in their 4 game game stand. They have built an overall record 24-8 and in the NSIC they are 15-5. Starting pitcher Kevin Bolder a 6'1" lefty, a junior from Tomahawk High School of Wisconsin threw 4 innings, he gave up 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and he recorded 5 strikeouts. David Kroger threw one inning of relief, he gave up 2 hits and Tyler Gentz, the junior left hander from Franklin High School of Wisconsin retired one batter, gave up 2 hits and one run. Miles Nablo a 6'1" right hand from Eden Prairie High School was lights out. He threw 3 2/3 innings of relief, he faced the minimum number of batters, eleven and he recorded a pair of strikeouts. For his great effort he was named the player of the game and he earned the pitching win.

Once again the middle infield defense was great as their offense. Judd Davis went 2-5 with a triple for a RBI and he scored a pair of runs. Jordan Joseph went 2-2 and for the second game in a row, he hit a home run for 2 big RBI's, he walked and he was hit by a pitch. Bo Schmitz, the Huskies back stop went 1-2 with a sacrifice bunt, he walked, one stolen base and he scored 2 runs. Zach Metzger the Huskies designated hitter, went 1-4 with a double for a RBI. Mathew Meyer the vacuum at first base, went 2-5 with a double for 2 RBI's and he scored a pair of runs. Mitch Mallek, the Huskies right fielder went 1-5 with a double for 2 RBI's and his counter part, left fielder Logan Swann went 1-5 with a double for a RBI. Cooper Maas, the anchor to the Huskies outfield earned a walk, 2 stolen bases and he scored a run. Ethan Ibarra continues to play very good defense at his 3rd base position.

Erik Monson was the pitcher of record for the Golden Bears in his relief effort. Carter Schmidt went 2-5 with a double for 3 RBI's and Ben Suits went 2-5 with 2 RBI's. Rochester Whittaker went 2-4 and he scored a run and Isaac Hormann went 2-5 with a double and he scored 2 runs.
