COLD SPRING SILVER SPRINGERS RECAP

The Silver Springers defeated the Becker Buzzards and the Alexandria Classic Clippers in a round robin double header on Saturday the 5th. Game #1 Silver Springers 4 Alexandria Classic Clippers 0 and Game #2 Silver Springers 6 Buzzards 0.


GAME No. 1

The Silver Springers defeated their Central Minnesota League rival the Classic Clippers 4-0, backed by errorless defense and a good pitching performance by lefty Joe Kounkel. Joe has built his record to 6-0 on the season, he threw a complete game. He scattered 4 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. No one scored till the bottom of the third inning, when Brent Schloe led off the inning with a walk; Todd VanErp executed a great sacrifice bunt to move Schloe to 2nd base and a single by Troy Schroeder. With runners at 1st and 3rd Greg "The Cat" Terres stepped and blasted a triple to plate both runs. They added another run in the fourth inning, with a lead off double by Mike Arnold and a ground ball out, advanced him to third base and he scored on an error. In the bottom of the sixth inning they added another run, with a single by Derek Falde, followed by a Brent Schloe double and a sacrifice fly by Troy Schroeder to scored Falde.

The Silver Springers Greg Terres went 1-4 with a triple for 2 RBI's and Rod Schafer went 1-3. Greg "Boomer" Bemboom went 1-3 and Derek Falde went 1-3 and he scored a run. Brent Schloe the former St. Joseph Saint went 1-2 with a double and he scored a run. He showed he could play first base with the best yet. Todd VanErp was hit by a pitch, Troy "Chico" Schroeder went 1-2 with a RBI and he scored a run. Mike Arnold the former Kimball Express star, went 1-2 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored a run.

The Classic Clippers, Doug Breitkreutz started on the mound, he threw 6 innings, he gave up 7 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Roger Johnson, possibly the oldest player in the state, went 2-3 on the day and Jon Brindell went 1-2 and Mike Forester went 1-2.


GAME No. 2

The Silver Springers defeated their Central Minnesota League rivals the Buzzards 6-0, backed by 11 hits and a combined 4 hitter by Andy Auger and Todd Steil. Andy started on the mound, he threw 5 innings to earn the win, his season record is now 4-1. He gave up just 2 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. The "Cat" Greg Terres, led off the game with his first home run of the season and he continued to roam the outfield like a leopard. They added another run when Rod Schafer reached base on a fielder's choice, followed by Greg Bemboom, the present Sauk Rapids Cyclone, single. Mike Arnold stepped up and delivered a sacrifice fly to scored Rod Schafer. They added to the lead with a Troy Schroeder walk, he went to second on a wild pitch and he scored on a single by the veteran Rod Schafer. Greg Bemboom delivered a single and Mike Arnold hit one in the cap for a double to score Rod Schafer. In the 5th inning they added 2 more runs, with Steve Huls, the former Minnesota Twin shortstop delivered a single, Rod Schafer had single and Greg Bemboom drove home Huls with a single and Schafer advanced to third base and he scored on an error.

The Silver Springers, Greg Terres went 1-3 with a home run and Steve Huls went 1-2, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Greg "Boomer" Bemboom had a great game, he went 3-3 with a RBI and Mike Arnold stays hot, he went 1-2 with a double for 2 RBI's. Derek Felde the former Delano "A" went 1-3 and Brent Schloe went 1-3. Andy Auger the former Johnnie great, went 1-3, Todd VanErp the former Bluffton Brave earned a walk and Troy "Chico" Schroeder, the former Luxemburg Brewer great, earned a walk and he scored a run.

The Buzzards, Brain Kolbinger started on the mound, he threw 4 innings, he gave up 7 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered 4 runs. Tanner Bakke, the former Clear Lake Laker great threw 1 inning in relief, he gave up 3 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Craig Hern, the former St. Joseph Saint threw 1 inning in relief, issued one walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts.
