ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI)- The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders defeated the Albany Huskies 7-0 on Tuesday night at Dick Putz Field.
Cathedral took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on Rudy Sauerer's RBI Double off of Albany starting pitcher Michael Iverson. Iverson pitched 3.2 innings giving up 6 runs.
In the 3rd inning, Cathedral's Reggie Deyak hit a double and later scored on Sam Nelson's RBI triple. Will Kranz and Tyler Bautch also drove in runs in the 3rd and the Crusaders extended their lead to 4-0.
In the 4th, Sam Nelson hit a 2 RBI double to give Cathedral a 6-0 lead. Nelson also drove in a run in the 6th inning and finished 3 for 3 with 4 RBI.
The Albany Huskies managed only 2 hits off of Cathedral starter Brandon Hartung. Hartung threw a complete game shut-out and struck out 5 Husky batters. For his efforts. Hartung was named the All-Star Trophy and Awards Player of the Game.
With the win, Cathedral improves to 10-7 overall and 9-4 in Granite Ridge Conference play. Their next game is on the road against Melrose on Friday night.
With the loss. Albany falls to 5-11 overall and 3-7 in conference play. They are on the road against Little Falls on Thursday night.
