ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A St. Cloud man and a friend looking to buy marijuana made one major mistake while calling their alleged supplier -- they dialed the wrong number -- and instead, they asked for weed from an on-duty St. Cloud police officer.
A uniformed police officer was in his patrol car when he received a call attempting to buy a pound of marijuana just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday, St. Cloud police Sgt. Martin Sayre said.
After the officer received multiple calls from the suspect, he set up a meeting with the prospective pot buyers along the 1100 block of 15th Avenue South. The officer called in the meeting and St. Cloud police officers arrived to meet the suspects.
Kewon Donte Johnson, 21, of St. Cloud and Steven Ray Hendricks Jr., 27, of Shoreview initially tried to flee from the officers, but the pair were quickly taken into custody, Sayre said.
Investigators spotted one of the men trying to get rid of items in his possession, leading officers to recover $3,060 in counterfeit $20 bills as well as small amounts of marijuana.
Johnson and Hendricks were transported to the Stearns County Jail and held on felony possession of counterfeit currancy charges.
