ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Saturday for central and western Minnesota.
The advisory is for an area north and west of a line from Montevideo to St. Cloud. It's in effect until 6 pm for west-central Minnesota, and until midnight for central portions of the state.
Precipitation will transition from rain to snow Saturday afternoon.. How much snow accumulates wiill be highly dependent on how quickly this transition occurs.
Two to four inches of snow is expected northwest of a Granite Falls to Mora line. If an earlier transition to snow occurs, six or more inches of snow will be possible in some places. This line would be most likely northwest of a Morris to Mille Lacs Lake line.
Be prepared for slippery roads and use caution while driving.
An Ice Storm Warning has been issued for Yellow Medicine and Lac Qui Parle counties, where freezing rain is expected until the precipitation changes to snow Saturday afternoon. Power outages are possible, as the weight of the ice could bring down trees and power lines.
