NIMROD, Minn. (AP) - Firefighters are battling a wildfire that has already burned about 1,000 acres in north-central Minnesota.
The fire started Sunday about 4 p.m. near Lyons State Forest near Nimrod. Wadena County emergency manager Scott McKellep says no injuries were reported as of late Sunday night.
A Minneapolis Star Tribune report says several homes have been evacuated near Nimrod, a small town with a population of about 75.
A Wadena County dispatcher said early Monday morning the fire has been contained but continues to burn. A fresh crew was scheduled to join firefighters already on the scene.
The state Department of Natural Resources used helicopters and airplanes to dump water on the blaze Sunday. McKellep says strong winds helped spread the fire early on, but died down later in the evening.
