ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A wheelchair-bound St. Cloud woman was recovering after she was hit by a van while manuevering her motorized chair over a crosswalk at a St. Cloud intersection Tuesday, according to a St. Cloud police spokesman.
The woman was crossing at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 1st Street South around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday when she was struck. Officers said Elizabeth Garcia of St. Cloud was going northbound in the crosswalk when a van heading westbound struck her wheelchair.
Garcia, 51, was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where she was recovering from non-life threatening injuries late Tuesday.
The van belonged to City Auto Glass based out of the Twin Cities. The van's driver Howard Ramaley, 43, of Maple Grove, told officers the sun was in his eyes and and he did not see Garcia until he struck her. Ramaley was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
