ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Drivers through St. Cloud will soon be moving again as the West Metro corridor construction project rolls on -- starting Monday, traffic along a stretch of Veterans Drive will shift from the westbound lanes on to the newly-constructed eastbound lanes, according to Stearns County transportation officials.
Traffic along Veterans Drive between Rolling Ridge Road and the Sauk River will be shifted to the newly constructed eastbound lanes beginning late Monday morning or possibly as late as early afternoon. Traffic was being rerouted to allow crews to begin work on reconstructing the westbound lanes.
The remaining work along Veterans Drive was estimated to take approximately another month, weather permitting.
Once traffic is shifted, there will be no direct access to Walnut Drive from Veterans until the westbound lanes are complete. Meanwhile, access to Holiday Station and Liberty Savings will be from Veterans Drive as the access from County Road 134 will be under construction.
After the traffic switch along Veterans, drivers along Brenda Lee Drive will be able to access Veterans via Rolling Ridge Road. Traffic control and storm sewer work for the CR 134 work had required closing Brenda Lee Drive at that intersection.
Drivers were reminded to slow down and drive carefully through work zones, and to use alternate routes around the location when possible.
