EVELETH, Minn. (KNSI) An event next week will commemorate the 10th anniversary of a plane crash that killed U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone and seven others.

The event will be Thursday at the Wellstone Memorial and Historic Site near Eveleth.

The crash near Eveleth on Oct. 25, 2002 killed Wellstone, his wife, Sheila Wellstone, their daughter Marcia Wellstone Markuson, campaign staffers Tom Lapic, Mary McEvoy and Will McLaughlin and two pilots.

The event is being organized by Wellstone Action, which was founded by the Wellstones' surviving sons, David and Mark, with members of the campaign staff.

Wellstone Action is the largest training center for progressives in the nation, with more than 55,000 alumni.
