ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The National Weather Service has replaced a Winter Storm Watch with a Winter Weather Advisory for Tuesday.
Moderate to heavy precipitation will move into southwest Minnesota by Tuesday afternoon, and quickly spread to the northeast.
Temperatures will cool quickly as the precipitation moves in, allowing rain to quickly transition to narrow band of moderate to heavy snow.
Within that band of snow, 3 to 5 inches of snow are likely, with localized amounts of 6 inches by Wednesday morning.
The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 pm Tuesday until 6 am Wednesday.
Some cities in the advisory are: Elk River, Cambridge, Monticello, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Hutchinson, Redwood Falls, New Ulm, St. Peter, Red Wing, Mankato, Owatonna, Fairmont and Blue Earth.
It is likely to be a wet snow and any trees with leaves on them may be stressed, leading to broken tree limbs and isolated power outages.
