ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Waite Park Mayor Rick Miller gave updates on the city's major projects in the works during his State of the City address.
"Some of the bigger projects we've got going on in Waite Park right now, is of course is the two hotels, one's a Marriot and one's a Hilton, that's being built on the old trailer park site in Waite Park, so that will really be an addition, it's great their working on it as we speak," Miller said.
The $28-million hotel project off Division and 3rd Avenue South will feature The Park Event Center Patio Bar and Restaurant in the middle of the two hotels.
Also in his address, he says the city is in the planning stages for a 4,000 seat amphitheater, that will be built on land behind the Menards off 10th Avenue South (design photo below).
"So with any luck, everything goes perfect, we'd design it this year, put it out for bids next winter, build it in 2018 and open it in 2019."
The city doesn't have any estimates on cost for the amphitheater yet, but they are seeking $5-million in state bonding money to help fund the project.
In terms of crime, the mayor says white collar crime like fraud and identity theft is on the rise, while major crime has decreased.
