SARTELL, Minn. (KNSI) It looks like the sale of the Verso paper mill site in Sartell to American Iron and Metal could be finalized as soon as Friday.
The St. Cloud Times reports local officials have opened dialogue with American Iron and Metal officials and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development on ways to assist in the redevelopment of the mill.
American Iron and Metal CEO Herbert Black was part of a seven-member delegation that toured the mill site recently. His company is expected to demolish most of the structures at the Verso site over the next 12 to 18 months. Then the company could sell the land to other developers.
The deal with Verso includes 258 acres on both sides of the Mississippi River.
Verso announced in August it would close the paper mill for good following a Memorial Day explosion and fire that killed one worker and injured several others.
