(KNSI)--An update on the recovery efforts at the Verso paper mill in Sartell. Sartell City Administrator Partti Gartland says as of late Wednesday afternoon, the fire was 99-percent contained.
Limited fire flares and smoldering continue. A number of hot pockets remain trapped behind a portion of the warehouse where extensive damage occurred, and portions of the roof system have collapsed and are lying on top of paper bales. About 20-percent of the paper bales in the warehouse have been removed.
Smoldering bales are being dipped into a water pit after they're taken out.
Sartell Fire Chief Ken Heim is hoping fire response at the site can be completed by late this afternoon.
To date, 29 fire departments and six law enforcement agencies have assisted in the effort.
