ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Local war veterans are demonstrating their artistic talents again this year - The St. Cloud VA Health Care System is in the second day of their juried Veterans Art Show.
The annual, public competitive event features a mixture visual art, creative writing, dance, drama and music. VA Occupational Therapist Deb Krueger, who is part of the team which organizes the show starting each December, says each piece is judged by a diverse panel of three judges who rate the work on a scale of one to five, while also carefully selecting a "Best in Show" from all categories.
"Each one of the judges has a different flair and taste for what they like," Krueger says. "That's definitely what keeps it interesting."
Krueger says the show has been great for encouraging Veterans to express their emotions related to personal experiences in healthy ways. She adds, they've seen a rise in the number in a new generation of veteran artists, many from the Iraq War.
The show wraps up today with music in the VA's Auditorium.
