ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - In spite of chilly weather, central Minnesotans have helped St. Cloud Catholic Charities "Pack the Porches" food and donation drive raise $9,969.00 and 1,789 lbs. of food for families in need.
This is the third year for the "Pack the Porches"event. This year has topped last year's total of $7,200.00, making it the largest total in the event's history.
Catholic Charities was stationed at both the Pioneer Place on Fifth Theatre in downtown St. Cloud, as well as St. Cloud Hyundai, collecting non-perishable food items and donations while offering Starbucks coffee.
They closed up shop at 1 p.m. and immediately began loading donated items into a truck for delivery to Catholic Charities Emergency Services.
Catholic Charities Communications Specialist Trina Dietz tells KNSI News the drive included single donations of $4,000.00 and $2,000.00, respectively.
Dietz says each dollar donated will buy between four and nine dollars worth of food for a family in need.
If you couldn't make it out to either spot, but still want to give, you can always contribute online.
"Pack the Porches" is part of Minnesota FoodShare Month - the movement in March to provide food for those stuggling in our local communities.
