ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) A Ramsey County judge has refused to reduce the $1 million bail for a St. Paul man accused of killing his wife, whose body has not been found.
Defense attorney John Conard argued the high bail was unreasonable and that Jeffery Trevino wasn't a flight risk because he has family in the area. But, Assistant County Attorney Richard Dusterhoft told the judge Thursday that calls made by Trevino from jail indicated he wanted to flee if he was released.
The prosecutor said that in one call, secretly monitored by jailers, Trevino asked family members to retrieve a briefcase from under his bed that contained a passport.
Trevino is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the disappearance and death of 30-year-old Kira Trevino, a central Wisconsin native.
