FOLEY, Minn. (KNSI) Three people had to be rescued after their boat capsized on a river in northern Benton County on Tuesday.

Chief Deputy Troy Heck says it happened on the Platte River just before 2 pm. The 17 foot boat carrying the three people became wedged against some fallen trees and began taking on water.

One of the occupants of the boat was swept downstream and was in the water when rescue crews were called for help. Royalton police and fire, Benton County sheriff's deputies and the DNR all responded. The person in the water was found holding onto a tree about 50 feet from shore.

The sheriff's office says none of the occupants of the boat were wearing life-jackets.
