Three dead in medical helicopter crash

VENTURA, Ia. (KNSI) Three people have died in the crash of a medical helicopter just south of the Minnesota-Iowa state line.

No patient was on board the helicopter from Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa when it crashed just north of Ventura, Iowa around nine o'clock last night.

Ventura is 17 miles west of Mason City, or about 35 miles south of Albert Lea.

A nurse, parademic and pilot died when the helicopter crashed and burst into flames in a field.

The helicopter was headed to Emmetsburg, Iowa to pick up a patient.

Officials used snomobiles and all-terrain vehicles to reach the wreckage. The FAA will investigate the cause of the crash.
