ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - It's not typical for urban police officers to be called to the scene of a bear sighting, but that's exactly what happened in St. Cloud on Sunday afternoon.

According to St. Cloud Police Lt. Jeff Oxton, three black bears were spotted in a tree in a Southeast St. Cloud neighborhood around 1:45 p.m.

Oxton says when officers arrived, residents pointed out the adult bear and two younger bears.

Oxton says the DNR was alerted, and advised the department to leave the bears alone with the expectation they'd come down on their own around nightfall.

Officers patrolled the area until then to prevent residents from disturbing the bears.

Oxton says the bears were reportedly out of the tree and neighborhood without incident by this morning.

He adds, the neighborhood, near the 400 block of 15th Avenue Southeast, is located near a wooded area.
