WAITE PARK, Minn. (KNSI) When the Waite Park  City Council meets tonight, they're expected to approve a resolution retiring the badge of the late officer Brad Thelen.

The 39 year-old Thelen--an 18 year veteran of the police force--died February 7th after battling cancer.

Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud says Thelen was well-liked by everyone on the force and was passionate about serving the people of his hometown.

Thelen earned the Medal of Valor in 2009 for rescuing a suicidal person.

He's survived by his wife and two daughters.
