WATAB TOWNSHIP, Minn. (KNSI) - Alcohol is suspected as a factor in a Benton County crash that seriously injured a 17-year-old driver and a passenger in Watab Township Tuesday night, according to the Benton County Sheriff.

The crash was reported along the 11500 block of West Lake Road in Watab Township just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Benton County Sheriff Brad Bennett said.

Investigators said the 17-year-old girl driving eastbound missed a 90-degree turn in the road, sending the car off the roadway before crashing into a tree.

The unidentified driver and her passenger Glen Durham, 27, of Rice were treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries before they were taken to St. Cloud Hospital, Bennett said.

Alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
