ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The St. Cloud City Council will get an update on plans for a community aquatics center next week.
The council will meet with YMCA officials Monday night at 6:15 at the YMCA on Northway Drive for a study session.
The YMCA and the city are partnering on the project. Late last year, they announced Whitney Park as the location of the new aquatics center.
The $20-million project will include swimming pools, a climbing wall, gymnasiums and fitness space.
A preliminary site concept calls for a 130,000 square foot community aquatics building, with the potential for up to a 30,000 square foot expansion, and 280 additional off-street parking spaces.
In 2004, St. Cloud voters approved using $10 million in local sales tax revenues for construction of a new community aquatics center.
