ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - There's a buzz surrounding the immediate St. Cloud State campus, but the Huskies' impending trip to Pittsburgh for the Frozen Four Tournament is also making waves with alumni, near and far.
SCSU Athletic Director Heather Weems tells KNSI News they're received a great deal of interst from alums via phone and e-mail, and they'v kept busy reaching out to SCSU grads with information on how they can watch their alma mater compete for the national title.
"We have a number of different watch parties and pre-game parties lined up in Pittsburgh, and around 10 set for the St. Cloud and Twin Cities area," Weems says. "There will also be giveaways and promotions. We're picking up a little bit more in terms of pre-sales for season tickets for next year."
Weems says the team's success has also resulted in strong SCSU apparel sales out of the campus bookstore - a trend that began even before their Frozen Four berth. She doesn't have any hard numbers yet, but she says they'll undoubtedly be strong.
"Even after the MacNaughton cup - when we first got the order for t-shirts, we said, 'I think you'll need to boost those up by quite a few," Weems says. "We went through a great deal of those, from a vendor in Detroit Lakes, and in all apparel sales, there's been a notable uptick."
Weems says, for now, they're busy preparing for tomorrow's campus send-off pep rally at 9:45 along the Atwood mall.
