ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) An atuopsy has determined an inmate found dead in the Stearns County Jail committed suicide.
Correctional staff members responded to a medical call in a secuire portion of the jail Sunday afternoonn. The inmate--identified as 22 year-old Jerod Jakel of Sauk Rapids--was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopy by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office determined Jakel hung himself. The cause of death was ruled to be asphyxia due to hanging.
Jakel was being held in the Stearns County Jail on charges of First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault and illegal possession of a firearm.
