ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Stearns County investigators hoped public help can aid in finding the crook or crooks behind a string of daytime residential burglaries striking rural areas of the county, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's office.
The burglaries have been concentrated over the past few weeks in an area covering Eden Lake, Maine Prairie, Munson, Lynden, Avon and Le Sauk, Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner said. As many as 48 burglaries have been reported in those communities stretching back to January 1.
Sanner said an Eden Lake homeowner recently heard her doorbell ring, but she didn't answer the door. Moments later, the homeowner found a stranger inside her house, preparing to steal items from the home. That suspect fled when the woman confronted him.
Investigators were seeking other area residents who may have encountered strangers ringing their doorbell during the day, then leaving when the door is answered.
Anyone with information about the crimes was asked to call the Stearns County Sheriff's Department at 320-251-4240.
