ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Stearns County is expanding its emergency alert system that allows residents to get emergency information as its being released.
A new system called Everbridge allows messages to be sent to people by landline phone, cell phone, e-mail, text and mobile devices.
The emergency alerts can be used to notify people of severe weather, flooding, public health concerns, environmental issues and public safety matters.
People can go to the Stearns County website and sign up for the alerts.
People who don't sign up--but have landlines--will get emergency messages through the county's calling system that uses phone numbers in the 911 system.
