The Minnesota State Patrol is reminding motorists to move over if they see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road.
Authorities are issuing the reminder in honor of state Trooper Ted Foss, who was making a traffic stop on Interstate 90 in Winona when he was hit by a passing vehicle and killed 13 years ago.
Minnesota's "move over" law means if there are two lanes, motorists must move one full lane away from a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights. Motorists must slow down if they can't safely move over. Those who don't could be fined over $100.
Extra patrols are on roadways statewide Saturday to enforce the move over law. In addition, authorities are running a statewide crackdown on drunken driving through Labor Day.
